Invite the people you mean
A house party is invite-only from the start. There is no listing to find, no discovery, and no way in without an invite.
Ask people to bring things
A bring-list anyone invited can claim from, so you find out who is bringing the ice before the day, not during it.
Split the cost, or don't
If you are covering something up front, set a total and it divides across whoever is actually coming. Nobody is charged until RSVPs close.
About splitting the cost
The share moves with every RSVP right up until the deadline, then it is fixed once and everyone is charged the same locked amount. If someone drops out late and your share would rise above what you agreed to, you are asked again rather than simply charged the difference.
If a guest’s card fails after the split is locked, that shortfall is never redistributed onto everyone else. The host is told the number.
